My cousin is moving to Williamsburg, VA, for law school in a few weeks so a friend of ours planned a “surprise” happy hour/dinner at Vapiano in Ballston. The website boasts an innovative urban European style. They serve made-to-order pizzas, house-made pastas and hand tossed gourmet salads. I ordered the house Riesling and a plate of mixed antipasti: an assortment of olives, arugula, fresh mozzarella, bruschetta, artichoke hearts and parmesan shavings.
My favorite part of the dining experience is the “chip card,” which is what customers use to order food and drinks. You pay the card balance on your way out-it saves you from splitting a check between 12 people!
Vapiano International is the winner of several awards and accolades including being listed on Fast Casual Magazine’s Top 100 Movers and Shakers in 2008. There are over 30 locations open worldwide including places like Berlin, Dusseldorf, Sweden (it does remind me of IKEA!), Saudi Arabia, England and the United States.
